NI Press Release (PDF)

The ImagingLab Robotics Library for DENSO is an easy-to-use library of graphical functions that you can use to command and control DENSO robotics directly from National Instruments LabVIEW. With the library you can:

Today’s high-mix, low-volume production machines require smarter robots that can interact with their environment through measurements and vision. LabVIEW is enabling new applications for industrial robots by integrating measurements, vision, robot control and HMI into one, easy-to-use environment. With the ImagingLab Robotics Library for DENSO, you can make your robotics system smarter without the need for complex robotics programming expertise. Beyond flexible manufacturing, with the library you can integrate DENSO robotics into new types of systems and applications for automated test, laboratory automation and precision manufacturing.

Using a single LabVIEW application, this robotics cell is able to locate and inspect parts for defects, guide the DENSO robots to precisely pick with conveyor tracking and place parts in the correct position for assembly.

An intuitive LabVIEW user interface provides real-time updates and guides the operators through the entire system set-up.

“The ImagingLab Robotics Library for DENSO was an off-the-shelf solution for integrating the robotic arm. Conservatively, we estimate that with this test station we will achieve a 10 fold increase in analytical throughput.”
-Dylan Jones, Principal Scientist at Genzyme.

The ImagingLab Robotics Library for DENSO installs as a functions palette in LabVIEW. The LabVIEW graphical programming language has enabled millions scientists and engineers to develop complex measurement and control applications very quickly and easily.

The ImagingLab Robotics Library for DENSO also works with LabVIEW Real-Time systems, which combines LabVIEW graphical programming with the power of a real-time operating system.

The library can run on the NI Smart Cameras for integrated vision-guided robotics and works with NI data acquisition hardware for the measurement of very simple or highly sophisticated applications.

  1. Faster Application Development

LabVIEW is a graphical programming environment used by millions of engineers and scientists to develop sophisticated measurement, test, and control systems using intuitive graphical icons and wires that resemble a flowchart. Because the ImagingLab Robotics Library for DENSO works with LabVIEW, engineers and scientist who are not robotics experts can now quickly integrate them into their applications.

  2. Single Software Environment

Production machinery is becoming more sophisticated, which means robots need to integrate into flexible manufacturing cells along with part feeders, user interfaces and vision & measurement systems. With the ImagingLab Robotics Toolkit for DENSO, an entire application can be designed and written in a single LabVIEW application.

  3. DENSO Robotics Precision and Reliability

In the past, handling small or delicate components required manual labor or single purpose hardware, such as vibrating bowl feeders, which conveyed parts mechanically. DENSO Robotics specializes in small and precise robots that pick up delicate components, handle expensive parts or manipulate challenging objects. These capabilities are particularly useful when addressing new applications for robotics in automated test, medical research, and precision assembly.
